About

The Mission of the Cumberland Heights alumni community is to equally serve and support:

  • Patients and family
  • Alumni
  • Staff

HOW IT STARTED

In 1986, the Cumberland Heights Alumni Association was formed through the efforts of Bob Jackson, Sydnor Horn, Mary Ann Quirk, and Jake Albright. The motivating force behind the formation of the Alumni Association was to start a patient assistant fund in order to provide financial help to patients in need of treatment. Another early project of the Alumni Association was the raising of funds and overseeing the construction of the Pavilion. This project became a symbol of the mutual trust between Cumberland Heights staff and alumni.

The Alumni Board was later given authority over the Annual Alumni Picnic and the bookstore located at Cumberland Heights. Both of these arrangements represented not only the respect Cumberland Heights had for its Alumni but also the commitment the Alumni had to Cumberland Heights.

Throughout the years, the Alumni Board has maintained a strong connection with Cumberland Heights, its patients, and the vision of helping those seeking recovery from addiction. The greatest assets the alumni have are the relationships Cumberland Heights allows them to form with current patients and staff.

WHAT IT’S LIKE NOW

Currently, the Alumni Association is involved in providing childcare on Friday nights during the Crossover meetings, organizing activities for the patients, coordinating the Annual Picnic and Alumni Golf Tournament, and continuing to share their experience, strength, and hope with the current patients.

VISION FOR THE FUTURE

The vision of the Alumni Association is to further and strengthen the personal relationships established at Cumberland Heights and to serve, support, and assist Cumberland Heights through its commitment to recovery.
