Crossover & Transitions

Every Friday night, we host an open AA format meeting called Crossover in the Threadgill Dining Hall. The main purpose for Crossover is to invite alumni back to campus to share their experience, strength, and hope with current patients and other alumni. A special meeting for family members is also held, and is a great way for family of alumni to get involved with the recovery community. The Alumni Association solely funds free childcare. This project was started to enable alumni to attend a regular meeting while knowing their children are safe and well taken care of. Childcare is always provided free of charge, though the Alumni Association does welcome donations on a purely voluntary basis.

On Saturdays, we host an open NA format meeting called Transitions, also in the dining hall. A supplement to Crossover, Transitions provides an opportunity to get familiarized with the program and fellowship of Narcotics Anonymous. Transitions is also one of the few regularly held events on campus that approaches recovery in a coeducational way, allowing male and female patients (and alumni) the opportunity to share their experiences with each other.  For information regarding the Crossover and Transitions schedules, please see the calendar to the right.

Annual Sydnor Horn Alumni Picnic & Golf Tournament

On the 3rd weekend of each September, the Alumni Association sponsors a weekend full of alumni fellowship. Starting on Friday, golfers of any age, shape, and skill class participate in 18 holes of recovery, fellowship, and fun. Ask any alumni who’s participated, and they’ll tell you it was an event they’ll never forget.

Saturday, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, we host the Alumni Picnic. The day begins with an Alumni Association “progress report” meeting, where all alumni are invited to participate in a conversation regarding the accomplishments and direction of the alumni program. After the meeting wraps up, the day continues with lunch (an unbelievable spread provided by Jimmy Threadgill), a silent auction, a live auction, a garage sale, and games and inflatables for the kids. Events are both indoor and outdoor, ensuring your comfort and a green light for the day regardless of weather. All proceeds from the golf tournament and picnic benefit the Alumni Patient Assistance Fund.

Eat & Speaks

The last Sunday of June, July, and August, join us in the Threadgill Dining Hall at 6:00 PM for a potluck supper! The Alumni Association provides the main course, but please provide your favorite side items (enough to share!). After dinner, we host a speaker meeting (either Al-Anon, AA, or NA — see the calendar for details).

Holiday Party & Easter Egg Hunt

Just before Christmas (usually the Friday before — see calendar for details), the Alumni Association provides a holiday party with music, snacks, and gifts for the patients. Immediately after, we hold Crossover as usual. It’s a great holiday celebration, and usually Santa and Mrs. Claus make an appearance!

Every Easter Sunday, starting at 1:00 PM, we host an egg hunt for children of patients, staff, and alumni. The hunt is divided into three age groups, and prizes are given for the boy and girl of each group who find the most eggs.

Alumni Patient Assistance Fund

The Alumni Association has a dedicated patient assistance fund aimed toward financially aiding current patients in whatever way we practically can. Assistance is given on a case-by-case basis with the direction of primary counselors and administration. In the past, the Fund has been used to finance patients’ first two weeks in transitional living homes, provide aid to families attending family week, and help bridge the gap between patients’ and insurance companies’ obligations.

Monies from the Fund are not intended to provide extended stays in treatment or transitional living homes.

Friday night Crossover childcare is provided solely with money from the Alumni Patient Assistance Fund. Donations are always welcome.
